What is Mooing?
At its core, "mooing" is the act of giving someone a cow-themed gift—either in person or left as a surprise—to brighten their day. Though for anyone who's still on the fence, below is even more details!
Who to Moo?
Anyone and everyone!
It's a great excuse to strike up a conversation with someone and possibly create a MOOment of joy!
For those who struggle, below are a few approaches we've tried!
- "Hello! I love your <shoes, purse, hair, etc>. Do you like cows by chance?"
- "Hello! We don’t know each other & I don’t know what kind of day or week you’ve had, but would you be willing to accept a small gift of kindness?"
Retail Employees
Grocery stories, coffee shops, you name it, there are likely employees there who could use a spark of joy!
Subaru Vehicle Owners
Have their own version of Duck Duck Jeep, called "Moo Moo Subaru", also called the "Moobaru Movement" by some. Which means a growing number would love to be mooed!
Where to Moo?
Anywhere You Go!
In reality, mooing need not be confined to a specific location! Sparks of joy are needed everywhere.
Parking Lots
The easiest and most common location for mooing and is done anonymously by leaving it on someone's car.
Retail Spaces
Taking more courage, some people moo in person as they see others who could use a pick-me-up!
How to Moo?
Vehicle
Windshield
While not the most visible method, windshield wipers are great at holding MOOgical suprises!

Vehicle
Door
Using your best judgement, the door is more visible but can be blown off by the wind.
Face-to-Face
In Person
While not everyone is brave enough or interested in mooing face-to-face, it can be extremely rewarding and a way to meet those around you!
Best Practices for Mooing Vehicles
Below are a few best practices from the community when approaching a stranger's car:
Please Don't...
- Tie Around Handles: can be difficult to untie and could create fear (delay tactics for human-trafficking).
- Use Clear Tape: can leave a residue and/or be difficult to remove.
Can Try...
- Tucking: If the inside of the handle already has scratches, this could be an option.
- Painter's/Masking Tape: used on the driver's side window, it's easy to remove, adds visibility, and a good option for windy days!
